This is a fairly emergent problem that needs to be addressed and dealt with immediately. In 2014, Flint Michigan disengaged from the water system through Detroit and began getting their water from the Flint river (untreated). 10 people have died, likely due to the toxic waters as many more get sicker. This could have been avoided altogether if the water had been treated properly with the proper chemicals, to stop the erosion of the pipelines. This toxic, lead-infested water becoming very harmful to the residents of Flint.
This crisis is going to have astronomical affects on the surrounding ecosystems. All of the animals surrounding the Flint river will be poisoned by the water and likely killed die to the high levels of lead in the water. The animals that are living in the waters will all likely die in the hostile environment. The greenery around the contaminated water will be greatly affected as well, as the toxic water is evaporated and precipitated back down, the toxic water will most likely corrode the trees and greenery. The Flint water crisis may have great affects on the surrounding environment and ecosystems.
